IxDD 2021 Solidarity and Transformation
World Interaction Design Day is an annual event where we come together as a united global community to show how interaction design improves the human condition.
Our aim is to have a positive, long-lasting impact by facilitating activities that support dialogue and outcomes.
Given the global pandemic, this year’s edition of IxDD was a digital-first experience. We came together, but apart, through regional live stream events from around the world.
Presented in partnership with Adobe and IxDA, we welcomed everyone to contribute by hosting activities for their local communities around the theme for 2021: Solidarity and Transformation

Questions & Answers
World Interaction Design Day is a global celebration of interaction design impact on improving the human condition. Presented in partnership by Adobe and the Interaction Design Association, events take place in communities across the world one day in September each year. This includes presentations, workshops, and design showcases focused on elevating the work of interaction designers, and knowledge sharing.
This year’s IxDD theme was Solidarity and Transformation.
The events of the past year opened the doors for interaction design to change how we work, connect and live. For World Interaction Design Day 2021 we explored how designers help us to adapt to a changing world, rally around new ideas and find ways to thrive despite all the challenges. We unpacked how interaction design is driving transformations in how we work, connect and live.
Discussions around this year’s theme included:
- What entrenched assumptions have you had to revisit?
- How did your work ethos or focus change?
- What changes in our ways of working did you want/expect to stick around?
- How have your collaboration processes changed?
- Are you designing with new audiences in mind? How is that perspective affecting your practice?
World Interaction Design Day is first-and-foremost for interaction designers. Events focus on the practice of creating interactive digital products, environments, and services. If you're not an interaction designer, you're still very welcome to attend an event. Developers, academics, students, and designers from other disciplines will certainly find many of our events interesting and empowering.

IxDA seeks to advance the discipline of interaction design by fostering a community of passionate individuals dedicated to moving our mission forward. Our mission is broad and inclusive, and our membership is passionate and diverse. While these attributes make the IxDA a strong and vibrant organization, they also bring the possibility of disagreement and cultural disconnect. As a volunteer-led organization we rely on the active participation of our community, which can only happen if all of our members feel safe and respected. By attending World Interaction Design Day, you are agreeing to IxDA's Code of Conduct.
