World Interaction Design Day is an annual event where we come together as a united global community to show how interaction design improves the human condition.

Our aim is to have a positive, long-lasting impact by facilitating activities that support dialogue and outcomes.

Given the global pandemic, this year’s edition of IxDD was a digital-first experience. We came together, but apart, through regional live stream events from around the world.

Presented in partnership with Adobe and IxDA, we welcomed everyone to contribute by hosting activities for their local communities around the theme for 2020: Culture and Sustainability

Introducing the 2020 UX Designers to Watch - Sep 29th

Khoi Vinh

Happy third annual World Interaction Design Day (IxDD)! We’re delighted to celebrate this year’s global event with the launch of Adobe’s second UX Designers to Watch program. This is a program that highlights impressive, up-and-coming UX design talent from around the world, people who are consistently challenging the limitations of the design profession despite being relatively early in their careers.

To select this year’s designers, we gathered a panel of leaders recognized across the industry.

Jamie Myrold
VP of Design at Adobe, USA
Joshua Seiden
Designer, Entrepreneur, and Co-Founder of IxDA, USA
Fabricio Teixeira
Work & Co Design Director, USA
Liz Danzico
Vice President of Design at NPR, USA
Khoi Vinh
Principal Designer at Adobe, USA

Together, we conducted a search that spanned the globe. We looked not just for technically proficient designers with strong portfolios, but also for burgeoning talents who demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the world through design. We also put a special emphasis on finding designers whose work complements this year’s IxDD theme of culture and sustainability.

This year’s cohort of UX Designers to Watch includes folks with a wide range of passions, from designing to reduce food waste to facilitating safe and effortless sneaker trading. Yet every one of these designers shares a passion for community and using their expertise to uplift others, whether through facilitating professional development sessions, creating experiences for underserved groups of people, or creating educational content to support peers in the design space. It’s a wonderful group of practitioners with tremendous energy, and you’ll be hearing a lot more of them in the years to come.

Without further ado, I am excited to present to you this year’s list of Adobe’s UX Designers to Watch.

Questions & Answers

World Interaction Design Day is a global celebration of interaction design impact on improving the human condition. Presented in partnership by Adobe and the Interaction Design Association, events take place in communities across the world one day in September each year. This includes presentations, workshops, and design showcases focused on elevating the work of interaction designers, and knowledge sharing.

The theme for 2020 was Culture and Sustainability. This year’s theme challenged the interaction design community to explore their impact on culture and sustainability in their work, workplace, communities, and beyond. Questions that came up relating to this topic include:

  • What does it mean to create a culture of sustainability?
  • In our increasingly interconnected global community, how do we enable local cultures to be resilient and sustainable?
  • What are our accountabilities as designers to ensure we are appropriately using our planet’s resources?

The theme is inspired by UNESCO’s Key Ideas around culture and sustainable development: "If achieving sustainability is first and foremost about making an appropriate use of the planet’s resources, then culture must be at the centre of our development strategies, since cultures frame people’s relationship to others in their society and the world around them, including the natural environment, and condition their behaviours."

World Interaction Design Day is first-and-foremost for interaction designers; events focus on the practice of creating interactive digital products, environments, and services. If you're not an interaction designer, you're still very welcome to attend an IxDD event; developers, academics, students, and designers from other disciplines will certainly find many of our events interesting and empowering.
